Three Gorges Dam

The Three Gorges dam is being constructed in China on the Yangzte River. When completed, it the $25 billion dam will be the largest hydroelectric dam in the world. It will have a generating capacity of 18,200 MW, will span more than two kilometers across, it will tower 185 meters above the river, and its reservoir will stretch over 600 kilomters upstream. This is not all necessarily good news. For example, it will cause the displacement of over 1.3million people. For more information on the Three Gorges Dam, try wikipedia or this useful site. There is also a site here for a tv programme about the dam, which has a lot of useful info on it.
